Predictability: You and Whose Army

It's a busy workday at Amazon and I am taking care of the packages that have to be sent next month. I have prepared some calculations that enable me to correctly guess what books need to be sent where next month. A new poetry book will be launched, and even though they might not know it themselves yet, my computer tells me exactly how many books need to be prepared for each area in each country. Of course, some will deviate; but that costs us much less. Due to our fast shipping we gain satisfied customers and it is much less work, so we can save a lot of money on employees.

I work for a big music company. We earn billions with creating and promoting new music. I take care of the Spotify analyses; to see exactly who is listening to what, where and for how long. I calculate how many guitar solo's, what beats are used and the length of the songs most listened too. Based on this our team gets together and use this perfect formula to create music for everyone exactly how they like it. We've seen it work a million times. The music industry is booming and the biggest part of it is in our hands. Our computers work the magic!

My company helps to get criminals off the streets! Before they even get the chance to commit the crime, we can calculate with 95% certainty if someone will commit a crime in the future and what kind of. The streets have never been so safe! We select these future-criminals based on internet clicks, contacts, family background etc. Imagine we wouldn't have been able to do this... so many traumatic experiences and disasters have been prevented.

My twelve-year-old son got taken by the police today... I am shaking and cannot understand. He would have become an offender they said, but he has never done anything wrong before! Just the standard things that kids do. If they would have at least given him the chance and the coaching or whatever they believe he needs... They would have seen that he means no harm to anyone and would behave just fine! I feel betrayed by the government.
