City map (female edition): Welcome to our lovely city!
Being born a girl in a world in which women were not equal to men caused me to feel angered. The inequality and double standards women faced were noticeable in every part of daily life. Girls couldn’t go outside by themselves after dark without feeling unsafe and the cases of rape and sexual assault were unacceptably high. But, besides this, inequality was also felt in the work field, where women had to work twice as hard as men to be able to work the same job, and even if they worked their way to the top they still got paid less than men. Even at home women couldn’t be free of unfair expectations: women had to be delicate and passive in home life and were looked down on if their manners or behaviours weren’t up to standard. All of this injustice motivated my desire to develop a new type of society, and in my fight for equality, I joined the feminist group that was active in my town. Together, through protests and rallies, we gained support. It felt good to finally be heard. Eventually, our fight moved to the political arena and after a few years, our support grew so big, we managed to instigate true change.

When I was elected president, the transformation of this city begun. Our goal is for all people to be equal and for women to feel safe. Rape, domestic violence and condescension of women would no longer be tolerated in any way in this new society. Ensuring the equality and safety of women started by paying women equal salary, enabling women to develop themselves how they see fit and allowing them to dress how they want to without being penalized for it. This, however, turned out not to solve the problem at its core. Now women were going out at night whilst wearing whatever they wanted, the cases of rape and sexual harassment increased rapidly. Therefore, a new strategy was necessary: the problem had to be removed with roots and all, and thus men were banned from the public spaces women inhabit.

From that moment on, things were different. A new era had begun in which peace amongst women reigned. Women and men now have the same opportunities, and women get to live their lives without being bothered by men. Women can now walk down the streets without being catcalled, go to parties without having to worry about their drinks being spiked and wear the clothes they want without being shamed for it. The strong division between public places for men and women has made life a lot easier for us women. Interaction with men only happens when it is desired or absolutely necessary, allowing women to finally live their lives in peace. I am very proud of the society that we have created and hope to expand our ideal city to many more places, so that women everywhere can finally live in safety.

Dear citizens,

let me tell you the story of how this society came to be:

Dear Ms President,

It's time for change!

For years now things have gotten more and more segregated, from our shops, to our streets, our workspaces, our entertainment, even our homes. Things have gone too far!

Yes, we feel more safe now, but at what cost?

Yes, cases of domestic abuse have gone down, but so have our marriage rates!

Yes, we disposed our stereotypes, but in doing so created new ones, ones that are just as harmful!

You might claim we are free to express ourselves, but that expression is limited by a gender binary, one that does not make sense anymore. I have seen young girls be shamed for liking the colour pink, because it is a 'weak and old-fashioned' colour. It is not. It is just a colour like any other. Some things, perhaps many things, should not be gendered the way they are now. This is not the solution.

People are more than just woman and man, people are people, and should live like people, should treat each other like people, instead of treating each other like a woman or a man. Everyone is so much more than that! People cannot, and should not, be divided the way they are now.

It's time for change!
It's time to stop the sex segregation and be people again instead of being genders! It's time for true equality! For everyone regardless of their sex, their gender or their gender expression.
